Wat Koh Lanta Tents Donation Project - Uprdate!!

I am pleased to be able to announce that a couple more people have joined the Merit Making quest to buy meditation tudong tents for people to come and take meditation retreats at the temple of Wat Koh Lanta. We have now raised funds for Luang Por Songchai to be able to purchase another four tents to add to the two we already have been able to donate to the temple. The money that was donated for these tents came from a couple of people who read Buddha Magic, and have purchased amulets from this blog, who saw my request for help here and on facebook. I would like to thank these people from the depth of my heart, and promise that as soon as the money has cleared in transfer to the acct, and the tents have arrive, that i will go and take more photos of the new tents so that all can see how it looks with six tents on the lawn at the temple!

We still need another minimum four tents to be able to take up to ten people for Vipassana and Samatha dhamma retreats, so i am still not giving up the quest until i have reached the goal of minimum ten tents. So anyone looking to improve their Karma by making merit and helping to spread the Dhamma to Foreign waters by giving retreats here for foreigners staying on Koh Lanta, pplease contact me to donate or transfer directly to the Koh Lanta temple bank account - using this word as the purpose of transfer 'Tent', so that Luang Por knows what the donation is for. Please help this Meritorious cause.

This is a Great Merit to help this Project, because it is directly involved with spreading Buddhism by allowing Westerners and Non-Thai speaking people to come and learn how Thai Theravada Vipassana is practiced in a Thai Temple in the real way, and learn how to Meditate in both Samatha and Vipassana methods, along with receive Dhamma teachings and stay in the temple.

Koh Lanta has many Foreign visitors and it would be nice to provide them with an opportunity to come and get to know the Dhamma. Please help Wat Koh lanta to reach the goal and purchase another eight tents for holding Dhamma retreat courses for both Thai and Foreign visitors.

Pra Gru Tham Suea - sale for Merit Making

Pra Gru Tham Suea (Hnaa Gae) - Supannburi

I have a few of these given to me by Luang Por Dte of Wat Pah Maha Chanokas a thank you for helping to raise funds for the completion of the seven Birthday Buddha images at the temple. I now wish to raise more funds for Luang Por Dte to buy 'Glod' Parasols and mosquito nets for Monks and Lay practitioners to use when visiting the temple for practice, and to help finish the completion of the Sala so that devotees have a place to come and pay worship and pray.

I have had a few seasoned amulet dealers look at these and all of them confirmed them to be of considerable age. They can be (and are), classed as a submember of the Benjapakee family of amulets and are considered one of the classics. I will donate all the funds from the purchase of this amulet to the temple of Wat Pah Maha Chanok to continue the projects. You can either pass the funds through me if you already know/and or trust me or deposit directly in the temples bank acct. If you deposit in the temples bank acc then oyu should send me scan of the transfer slip so i can confirm it with Luang Por, and then send you the amulet. I have already written about Luang Por Dte here on the blog and about Pra Gru Tham Suea. Try the 'search this blog' search module using these two terms and see whats there to find out more about the origins of this amulet and the temple of Wat Pah Maha Chanok. I believe these amulets to be sacred. They were buried at the temple by a monk who wandered there on Tudong from Supannburi. He left various amulets there, nost of them being Pra Gru Tham Suea, with a few other rare amulets such as Luang Por Dto Gru bang Grating, and Somdej Rasamee (Khun Phaen Perd Maan). There was also one from India which i kept for myself, and also published for viewing on this blog.

Price of making Merit and receiving this amulet; 2000 Thai Baht (plus whatever you wish if you like to donate more).

I am not sure if the acct. is in the name of the temple or the abbot so shall post this later in case it is needed.

Merit Making - meditation tents for Dhamma retreats at Wat Koh Lanta - update!

2 Meditation tents already donated to Wat Koh Lanta, another eight needed for minimum goal.

First donations for the Tents for people to come and practice at Wat Koh Lanta came in from Mr. Rodin and Mr. Marc. Luang Por being the extremely diligent and conscious Monk that he is, did not wait for us to gather the projected goal of 20 thousand baht, rather took the little money which i had already passed on to him (4500 Baht) and bought two tents already.

He called me Yesterday to come and have a look, so i grabbed my Camera and thought i would take the opportunity to take a photo so you can see the tents we bought.

I hope this inspires more people to make a donation, for we need a minimum of another 8 tents (the original idea was 20 tents but we have dropped our hopes and think that ten should suffice at first).

We seriously need donations to buy more tents for the Temple in order to provide a comfortable opportunity for Westerners to come and practice outdoors in the temple and experience Dhamma and Vipassana Kammathana techniques.

Anyone who wishes to make a donation can either contact me or can make a direct Bank transfer to the account of Wat Koh Lanta. Put the word 'Tent' on the payment order so Luang Por knows what the donation is for. Please help this Meritorious cause.

Khunphaen Perd Maan - Somdej Rasamee

The Mysterious Khun Phaen Amulets found in Way Pah Maha Chanok; I have been lucky enough to have recieved some of these amulets as a gift from Luang Por, which i have decided to distribute and raise more funds for the development of Wat Pah Maha Chanok. Till now we have recieved donation from very kind person from Singapore who has paid for the completion of the seven Buddha statues in the temple, and now Luang Por plans to finish the Dhamma salon and then go on to building a Buddha statue, after he has raised funds enough to buy ten 'Glod' (umbrellas with tent like mosquito nets for forest monks to meditate in).

I have decided to try to raise funds for the 'Glod' and mosquito nets by renting out a few of these amulets, which are now almost completely run out. Five of these available for rent. There have been various opinions and theories about where this amulet comes from and who made it, but all we really know is that a Tudong Forest monk wandered down here to Krabi from Supann Buri and buried the amulets here that he had brought with him. There were several kinds of amulet in his buried treasure trove, including these ones, which Luang Por at Wat Pah maha Chanok calls 'Khun Phaen Perd Maan'. I myself would call it 'Somdej Rasamee', because of its similarity of aura to those in the Luang Phu Sukh amulets from Wat Pak Klong Makham Tao.

One of these was rented out to a Singaporean devotee who responded back that the amulet glowed red as he chanted. There is anyway something strange and also miraculous about Wat Pah Maha Chanok, so i can believe that this amulet also has something special.

Rental Price; 70$US or 93$SG
Renting one of these amulets is in part making Merit because a large part of the proceedings go back to the temple

Donations needed - Tents for Wat Koh Lanta for people Practice Dhamma

Luang Por Songchai is preparing to enable facilities on the island of Koh Lanta for people to practice Dhamma and Vipassana in Tudong Tradition sitting out in tents meditating in the day and night. In order to do this he is making a comfortable lawn with shade from trees and needs to obtain tents for the people who will stay to practice in the temple. Here are the tents i am going to recommend him to use because they are wind mosquito and rain proof - they are 'Glod" (the umbrella used by monks to meditate under the whole night in the forest). But with a difference, they are also like a tent, and thus apt for foreigners who are not used to the mosquitos and have white supple skin which the mosquitos find delicious.

Anyone wishing to make merit can see the details of Wat Koh Lantas bank account at the bottom of this post and make a donation, or can pay to get some of these tents sent to the temple if they wish (i shall return here to post some websites where they can be bought if i can find some - in this case you will be able to order, pay and have it sent to the temple without my interference).

I shall be posting some photos of the temple and Luang Por very soon. I just wanted to post it whilst i was thinking of this idea to help - the Buddha taught that  when you think of doing something, you should do it there and then, if not you might forget or never do it.

This is a needed merit for a Good Monk and a good temple which is planning to aid in spreading the Dhamma around the world and making it accessible to people who come to Koh Lanta on their travels or holidays, and come and experience Vipassana practice from a Master Monk.

The Bank account details for Wat Koh Lanta Are;

Account Name; WAT KOH LANTA
Account Number; 9730039917
Account Type; Savings account
Bank Branch: KOH LANTA
Swift code (instead of IBAN); BKKBTHBK

I am now searching for various sources to purchase these tents on the internet as well as direct purchase from the shops. Because we are on an island, and need 2 ferries to go to krabi (which probably doesn't have any shops for this anyway), I think it will be nice and easy if i can find a decent online place to order and have sent.

I shall add the adress too soon in case anyone wishes to obtain a tent and send per post, or otherwise donate anything. Another great way to donate for people who are visiting Koh Lanta is to buy one in Bangkok and bring it to practice, and then donate it when they leave. This is of course only for those who do visit Koh Lanta and come to practice.

Sariga birds in sacred Oil with Kata

These Sariga birds are from a single batch of 100 made by Hlwong Por Dte of Wat Pah Maha Chanok, which are in the process of being made and will undergo Putta Pisek blessing once they are ready. This example is the first one made and belongs to LP Dte, who let me take it to photograph and post here. They will be made in three sizes, large, medium and small. They will be distributed enclosed in a perspex casing as in the photo and soaked in blessed sacred prayer oil (Nam Man Jantr). The Sariga bird is an attraction spell for Metta Mahiniyom and love charms, which will make both business sales rocket, as well as increase your popularity in both the workplace and your love life.

He hopes to use the funds from the Sariga birds to fund the further development of the temple, which only has a salon for dhamma practice, and one Kuti hut, plus seven unfinished Buddha statues. The forest temple is very sparse and LP Dte actually sleeps outside under the roof of the dhamma salon (sala badibat tam) because his Kuti houses the seven heads of the Buddha statues which are unfinished due tolack of finances. I stay oftenn with LP Dte there in the forest and can guarantee that this place is in need of much help to improve the living conditions because we have to sleep outside and withstand cold winds and rain storms as well as the mosquitos and beware of dangeoruos animals such as snakes etc.

The Sariga birds will be released at a rental price of  $SG50 dollars. Only one hundred will be made for a first edition, so they will also be very collectible too. The Kata on the birds says  Na Chaa Li Dti Na Ma Pa Ta on one side, and Put Ta Sang Mi  Na Ma A U on the other. These Kata arepure Metta Mahaniyom Maha Sanaeh - Na ChaaLi Dti is used for great luck and fortune and can be seen in many  attaraction and luck charms such as chu chok and nang kwak. You should use these Kata to chant whilst wearing the amulet and also to chant into it before putting it on in the morning. You can add the Kata "Gaara Wigo Gaara Gaa Noo" as the heart mantra of Sariga too if you like whilst chanting.
